Cambridge United chairman George Rolls will recommend ex-Leyton Orient manager Martin Ling as a strong candidate for the vacant manager's job to the board.

The U's have been looking for a boss since sacking Blue Square Premier boss of the year Gary Brabin last Monday.

Rolls told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Martin is one of the potential candidates I will be recommending to the board to place on our shortlist.

"He's taken Orient from the bottom of League Two to League One football."

Rolls has confirmed he has drawn up a shortlist of three or four names which he will take to the board of directors for a final decision.

The club hope to name their new manager sometime next week but Rolls said: "It could be earlier. The only problem is two of our board members are in America.

"We've also got [academy director] Jez George with the young scholars in the Czech Republic at the moment and we need all the board together to make a decision."

Any new appointment would be the third manager in as many seasons through the doors at the Abbey.
