Rolls denies rift with U's boss

Rolls has warned of less funding next season

Cambridge United director George Rolls has denied that there is a rift between himself and manager Gary Brabin.

Brabin queried the board's financial backing and called for a bigger budget after the 5-0 defeat to Crawley in the FA Trophy.

Rolls told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's been taken out of context. You'll find that his explanation was that he was having more of a dig at Crawley.

"A lot of this has been blown out of proportion," he added.

Since Brabin asked for more funds earlier this month the Cambridge directors have dug into their own pockets to sign Scott Rendell on loan from Peterborough United until the end of the season.

They have also secured the transfer of Daryl McMahon from Stevenage Borough.

And Rolls added that the recent spending would mean a reduced player budget for next season.

"He's fully co-operative that next year the budget won't be as it is this year," he said.

"Gary and I have a very good working relationship, we speak every day."
