U's can still improve - Hatswell

Cambridge United defender Wayne Hatswell has backed his side to improve over the coming weeks even though they won their opening three matches.

The U's go to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday before welcoming Kettering to the Abbey Stadium on Monday.

Hatswell told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "As the weeks go on we can gel and the team spirit can improve.

"Fitness levels obviously improve, and this season will get a lot tougher with bad weather and more games each week."

The 33-year-old is confident his partnership with new arrival Phil Bolland in the centre of defence will also go from strength to strength.

"I played with Bolland at Chester and he's a good friend of mine so we've hit the ground running," he said.

"We've both been disappointed that we've let two goals in [this season] and hopefully we can start keeping a few more clean sheets.

"We're looking solid with [Danny] Potter behind us and we've got probably the two best full-back in the league as well."

On Cambridge's trip to Eastbourne on Saturday, Hatswell said: "We've got to go there and be as strong as we can, and match them in all departments.

"Hopefully the quality we've got with the boys up front will get us a goal.

"If we do our job at the back and walk away 1-0 winners like we did at Northwich then that would suit me."
