Cambridge United defender Adam Davies has been forced to retire from professional football at the age of 20.
Davies failed to recover from a serious knee injury sustained at the start of last season and suffered a further set-back in a comeback game last month.
Youth-team product Davies made 16 first-team appearances and was capped by Wales at Under-21 level.
Boss Jimmy Quinn told the club website: "I'm devastated for him. We'll do everything we can to try to help him."
Meanwhile, midfielder Mark Convery will be out of action for "several weeks" with a hamstring injury sustained in last Saturday?s win at York.
