Cambridge are close to signing winger Louis-George Mongin on a free transfer from French amateur side GAP after the 20-year-old agreed terms.

Chairman Gary Harwood told the club website: "The deal is subject to a medical and international clearance, but he has agreed to join us.

"He is a very quick young player and (boss) Herve Renard is delighted as he has been very keen to sign him.

"He thinks he is the final addition he needs for the squad."

Meanwhile, Renard has chosen midfielder Luke Guttridge, 22, to captain the U's this season - ahead of defender Andy Duncan, who wore the armband for several games at the end of last season.

Renard explained: "I think it will be good for Luke. He is a leader, he wants to win and I think this will help him improve as a player.

"It is maybe difficult for Andy, but Andy is the captain for the dressing room. He has good experience and he is good for the squad."

However, Guttridge will miss Cambridge's next two friendlies as a precaution, after suffering problems with his vision earlier this week.
