U's hit by Bridges blow
Cambridge's David Bridges
Bridges must have an operation
Cambridge United midfielder David Bridges is set to undergo an operation on his ankle and could miss the start of the season.

The 20-year old did not figure for the final ten weeks of the last campaign due to an ankle ligament injury and it has still not cleared up.

U's manager John Taylor told the club's official website that the injury was taking longer than expected to heal.

"They hoped they might be able to rehab him but it hasn't quite taken, so they will go in and clean his ankle up a bit," Taylor said.

"It means he will probably miss the first week of pre-season.

"It's one of those nightmare scenarios where they didn't want to go in because it's not quite as bad as they thought."
