Bennett pace frightening - Knill

Bury

Bury manager Alan Knill has underlined his belief that the pace of Elliott Bennett will continue to terrorise defenders in League Two.

The 19-year-old, on loan from Wolves, scored the winner in Saturday's derby victory against Macclesfield.

"The best thing of all about Elliott is that he's got a bit of pace," Knill told BBC Radio Manchester.

"It's that pace that frightens people and it made his goal for him, a goal he took really well."

Saturday's strike was only his second in league football, having gone 26 games without a goal since his last one, also in a derby, for Crewe at Port Vale in November.

But Knill hopes that the confidence of finding the net again will do him good.

"He's had a couple of chances since he's been here and hasn't taken them," said the Shakers boss. "But he made it pay this time and I'm delighted for him.

"Elliott is a good player and is going to be a better player.

"He is not the finished article yet by far but he has a really good work ethic about him and he listens and learns."

Telford-born Bennett, who made two early season League Cup substitute appearances for Wolves, spent two months on loan at Crewe before Christmas.

He was then brought to Bury by Shakers caretaker manager Chris Brass on January transfer deadline day. But, since Knill took over in early February, he has been a fixture in a Shakers side who have lost just four times in 16 games to lift themselves clear of trouble.
