Defender Branston chooses Brewers

Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido has won the race to sign experienced central defender Guy Branston from Kettering Town.

Branston, 30, agreed a two-year deal at the Pirelli Stadium despite interest from Torquay United.

Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby: "He's one of these players that is contagious.

"When you see someone dragging people about, it then tends to happen all over the pitch."

Branston began his career at hometown club Leicester City. After spells with Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday, Oldham and Peterborough, he joined Notts County in January 2008.

He spent just a month at Meadow Lane before moving to Kettering and taking over as captain.

The defender has also had loan spells with Colchester, Plymouth, Lincoln, Wycombe, Rochdale and Northampton.

Branston said he was thrilled with his move back into the Football League and has no plans to drop his aggressive approach as newly-promoted Burton look to gain a foothold in League Two.

"I'm prepared to tackle people. I could be a fancy Dan but I wouldn't get my mortgage paid that way," he said.

"I don't think my disciplinary record is going to stop me going forward."
