Football League newcomers Burton Albion have named Paul Peschisolido as their new manager.

It is the 37-year-old Canadian's first managerial post and former Brewer Gary Rowett has joined as his number two.

Peschisolido, who scored 137 goals in 520 appearances for nine English clubs, had been assistant manager at Irish side St Patrick's Athletic.

Albion chairman Ben Robinson said: "We have two managers who are ambitious to start off on the managerial ladder."

Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby: "I'm a football purist. I like the game to be played with a tempo, but a passing game.

"There will be times when you have to go more direct but all in all I want to play football and entertain but ultimately it's about results and any way we can get them, we will utilise.

"The aim is to stay up, they've taken a lot time to get here. So we look at staying in the division as our main priority."
