Burton's hopes of signing David Johnson have been dashed with the ex-Ipswich and Nottingham Forest striker joining Conference North club Hucknall Town.
Johnson's career has been blighted by injury
Johnson had been training with the Burton as boss Nigel Clough looked to recruit the 30-year-old.
But contractual issues relating to his departure from Forest ended a planned move outside the transfer window.
Johnson has joined Hucknall, who are not covered by the same restrictions, on a deal until the end of the season.
He had been helping Nottingham Forest with their coaching after his retirement from League football in September 2006.
