Burnley seek striker after Martin Paterson is injured

Burnley manager Eddie Howe says he is looking to sign a new striker after Martin Paterson was ruled out with a thigh injury.

The Northern Ireland international went off at half-time in Burnley's 2-2 draw with Watford following a recurrence of the problem he suffered last season.

Howe told BBC Radio Lancashire: "We are working very hard, we know who we want and we've just got to try and get them.

"We are light on numbers and we are down to just two recognised strikers."

Paterson has also been withdrawn from the Northern Ireland squad for this week's friendly against the Faroe Islands.

We need players that are good enough to come in and make a difference to our team

Scans have since confirmed the injury but it is unclear yet how long he will be out for.

Howe added: "We need players that are good enough to come in and make a difference to our team.

"At this stage of the season to be a little bit thin on the ground isn't ideal because we need to pick up results straight away.

"Its something are looking to do and do quickly," he said.

Burnley have just two senior strikers in Jay Rodriguez and Charlie Austin for tonight's Carling Cup game against Burton Albion at Turf Moor.
