Clarke Carlisle joins Preston North End on loan

Clarke Carlisle
Carlisle has made 153 appearances for Burnley since signing in 2007.

Preston North End have signed defender Clarke Carlisle on a one-year loan deal from Lancashire neighbours Burnley.

The 31-year-old, who was born in Leyland, becomes Phil Brown's first signing of the summer.

The centre-half featured in North End's 4-0 win over Fleetwood on Wednesday night and will remain at Deepdale until June 2012.

Carlisle has made 153 appearances for Burnley since joining from Watford in July 2008 for £200,000.

The 31-year-old is entering the last year of his contract at Turf Moor.

Clarets boss Eddie Howe has said he wants to reduce the average age of the playing squad.

Preston-born Carlisle was named the chairman of the Professional Footballers Association in November 2010.

The former Blackpool, QPR, Leeds United and Watford player also became the first ever footballer to appear on the BBC Question Time panel when he was invited on the programme in January.
