Burnley drop interest in Blades stopper Matt Kilgallon
Matt Kilgallon signed for Sheffield United from Leeds in January 2007
Premier League newcomers Burnley have dropped their interest in Sheffield United centre-half Matthew Kilgallon after hearing his wage demands.
The Clarets did confirm an interest in the 26-year-old former Leeds man.
But the club said in a statement on Friday afternoon: "The club is not prepared to meet the agent's excessive wage demands for his player.
"The club has no intention of breaking its wage structure and disrupting the togetherness of a united squad."
The club statement continued: "Burnley Football can confirm an interest in signing Sheffield United central defender Matthew Kilgallon. But we will instead look elsewhere for reinforcements."
New Burnley boss Brian Laws, whose previous job was as manager of Kilgallon's Steel City rivals Sheffield Wednesday, is yet to make his first signing for the Clarets, following his appointment on Tuesday.
