Burnley boss Owen Coyle has been named the Championship's manager of the month for September.

Coyle won the award ahead of Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock, Steve Coppell of Reading and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy.

Burnley recovered from a poor start to the season to win four and draw one of their last five league matches.

"It's a tremendous accolade," Coyle told BBC Radio Lancashire. "It's credit to the football club and everybody involved with it."

The Clarets beat local rivals Preston before twice coming from behind to take all three points against Watford.

"As the manager and the figurehead you're the recipient of the award, but it's through the hard work that everybody's put in."

Coyle reserved special praise for the impact of loan signing Russell Anderson.

The 29-year-old defender, who only joined Burnley from Sunderland in August, is likely to be out for the remainder of the season after damaging his cruciate knee ligaments in the Carling Cup win over Fulham.

"I think we'll all enjoy getting the award and sharing it, but I'd like to think we're indebted to Russell Anderson who played an enormous part in that," Coyle added

"He came into the club and has been fantastic and our thoughts are with him for a speedy recovery."
