Burnley could end Driver interest

Hearts winger Andrew Driver
Driver was born in Oldham

Burnley manager Owen Coyle has no plans to make a fresh offer for Andrew Driver after Hearts rejected two bids for the Edinburgh club's winger.

Oldham-born Driver is already a first-team regular at the age of 20.

"We made two inquiries for Andrew and we're not preparing a third bid," Coyle told BBC Sport.

"The way it was left was, if anything was going to happen, Hearts had to come back to us. I felt we made a fair offer for the player."

Driver came through the youth ranks at Tynecastle and has made more than 50 appearances since his first-team debut in August 2006.

Coyle did not wish to comment on reports that his latest bid amounted to 750,000.

MY SPORT: DEBATE

But it is the second disappointment of the week for the former St Johnstone boss after Rangers forward Alan Gow priced himself out of a move to Turf Moor as part of the 3m transfer of Kyle Lafferty to Ibrox.

Coyle has turned his attention to other targets.

He was not being drawn on their identities but admitted to wanting to decrease the average age of his squad as he prepares for a second assault on promotion from the Championship.

So reports of interest in veteran Rangers defender David Weir appear to be wide of the mark.
