Season over for sidelined Clarets

Kyle Lafferty and Stanislav Varga have both been ruled out of Burnley's final three games of the Championship season.

Lafferty, 20, underwent an emergency operation to remove his appendix, which started troubling him following the weekend defeat to Sheffield United.

Slovakia defender Varga has missed four games with an injury to his right foot.

The problem has not eased, and despite receiving injections, the 35-year-old defender, on loan from Sunderland, will now undergo an operation.

"Kyle was rushed to hospital on Sunday night with suspected appendicitis, which it was," said Burnley manager Owen Coyle. "He has had to have it removed and he will be out now for four or five weeks, which means his season is over.

"Stan was injured in the game against Wolves and we subsequently gave him a couple of injections. The foot has not responded to those injections, so he will have an operation in the next couple of days.

"It's a shame, but we have to move on and look to end the season well."
