Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle feels the current squad at Turf Moor is the best he has ever been part of.
He told BBC Radio Lancashire that the quality of players at the club's disposal is better than the Watford squad he won promotion with in 2006.
He said: "I'm sure Aidy Boothroyd will forgive me for saying that the actual footballing quality in the side we went up with wasn't like a West Brom.
"I actually believe that the quality we've got in this squad is better."
Carlisle added: "It's whether we can churn out the consistent results and performances week in, week out that will see whether we are challengers or not."
Carlisle is set to return at Plymouth on Saturday for the first time since damaging his hamstring on 29 December.
There is full match commentary of Plymouth against Burnley this Saturday on BBC Radio Lancashire on 95.5 FM and 1557 MW.
