Bristol Rovers have appointed former Port Vale and York City boss Martin Foyle as first team coach.

The 47-year-old comes in to support new boss Dave Penney, who goes in search of his first win as Rovers manager when they take on Swindon Town on Saturday.

"It was an easy decision and Dave's been one of those people I've respected for a long time in the game," Foyle told BBC Radio Bristol.

"To get back into League One again and play a big part was major for me."

Foyle will work alongside Darren Patterson, whose role at Bristol Rovers is yet to be defined since his spell as caretaker boss.

I'm a hard worker so anything that the manager or Darren needs I'm certainly going to be here to get what they want

He has been out of work since resigning from his position of manager at Blue Square Bet Premier side York City in September.

"I had opportunities at Conference and League Two level but I didn't feel it was the right time or the right move for me," said Foyle.

"It's a club that need a little bit of help right now but hopefully have the potential to move on later next year.

"I think at this level you need people you can work with and trust and I'm one of those people.

"I'm a hard worker so anything that the manager or Darren needs I'm certainly going to be here to get what they want."

Meanwhile, Rovers have transfer listed 26-year-old midfielder Dominic Blizzard.

Penney said: "It has not quite worked out for him. He is available for a loan or permanent move. We want to freshen things up, both for the player and the club."
