Bristol Rovers have completed signing of Bristol City striker John Akinde on loan until 5 January.

The 21-year-old target man goes straight into the squad to face Southampton on Saturday.

"He is the type of player we have been searching for for quite a while, in terms of his physical attributes," Trollope told the club website.

"His all round game is decent and he will bring different qualities and attributes to the squad."

Trollope continued: "He is young and is still work in progress and is still improving. With his age he fits in with what we are trying to do.

"It is a loan to begin with a possibility of further things after January and it suits all parties."

Akinde started his career at Ebbsfleet United after coming through their academy.

He scored 10 goals in 28 appearances and won the FA Trophy before moving to Bristol City in 2008.

The forward had spells on loan at Wycombe Wanderers and Brentford while at Ashton Gate and came on as a substitute in City's last two matches against Doncaster and Barnsley.

The last player to move directly between the red and the blue half of the city was goalkeeper Steve Phillips back in 2006.
