Pirates to wear commemorative kit

Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers will launch their 125th anniversary celebrations this Saturday by wearing a commemorative 'Black Arabs' kit.

The nickname 'Black Arabs' came from the black shirt with a yellow diagonal stripe, worn by the club in 1883.

The Football Association has granted the club permission for the first team to wear the kit in their League One game against Swindon Town on Saturday.

Captain Black Arab was also named as the club's new mascot in October.

The Pirates were know as the Black Arabs in 1883/84 but changed their name to Eastville Rovers the following season.

Black Arabs Football Club was not part of a league but played friendly matches but there is no record of the goalscorers for their first season.
