Penrice resigns
Bristol Rovers' assistant manager Gary Penrice has resigned after 18 years with the club.

Penrice, 37, met with chairman Geoff Dunford on Thursday to tender his resignation.

Penrice told the Rovers website: "I feel it is time to allow Garry Thompson the opportunity to bring in someone else to inject some new life and enthusiasm in the squad.

"I have been proud to work alongside Garry and he has treated me very well.

"I appeal to our supporters to get behind him and the players in the remaining 11 games.

"I have enjoyed every last minute of my time with Bristol Rovers as a player, coach, assistant manager and scout.

"My love for the club is as strong as ever."

Penrice joined Bristol Rovers as a player in 1984 and returned in 1997 following spells at Watford, Aston Villa, QPR and Watford again.

Dunford said: "Gary is a man of great pride and integrity.

"The role has has played since I came to the club is immense.

"He had a further year left on his contract which he has given up in the hope a new face wiilll have an effect on our squad.

"He played a major role in the discovery and development of players such as Barry Hayles, Steve Foster and Jason Roberts.

"His goal-scoring feats will be remembered alongside the all-time greats of Bristol Rovers."
