Gary Johnson hails Bristol City chief Stephen Lansdown

Some Bristol City fans have questioned Johnson's position as manager

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has praised chairman Stephen Lansdown for his support following the 6-0 hammering at home by Cardiff City.

City were booed off by large sections of Ashton Gate on Tuesday and Johnson and his players have come in for some strong criticism since then.

"I think he's a very good man manager and I think he does a great job with me," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.

"He was the first official face I saw at the end of game."

Johnson continued: "You can see why he's very successful in his business and with this football club.

"We've been in this situation before. The year we got into the play-off final we had a couple of really bad defeats and had to lift the troops and get going again.

"It's happened to all managers. Some lose their jobs, some don't and others manage to go on and have a successful spell which is what we're looking to do.

"And it is how you react to the defeats as a football club that matters."

City, who face a trip to Middlesborough on Saturday, are in 11th place in the Championship, six points off the play-offs.
