Bristol City have signed winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce from Championship rivals Barnsley on a two-and-a-half year deal.

"Everyone wants to play at the highest level," he said. "And Bristol City were one game away from the Premier League.

"They and their manager Gary Johnson have shown amazing interest and put the bid on the table. I'm really excited and raring to go."

The 26-year-old, who first joined the Tykes from Southend in 2007, made 100 appearances, scoring 13 goals.

The club is striving on and I am glad to be a part of it.

Now he has swapped a Barnsley side 16th in the Championship table for a City side six places and five points better off.

"I am really good friends with Marvin Elliott," he said. "I have played with Lewin Nyatanga and I know Dean Gerken.

"Hopefully we can get to the play-offs and then go one better than two years ago."

The Jamaica international began his career at Charlton Athletic, before joining Rotherham, then Southend, also enjoying brief loan spells at Leyton Orient, Wimbledon, Chesterfield and Colchester.

He will go into City's squad for next Tuesday's Championship match with Cardiff City.
