Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard has said the fans were the inspiration for his goal celebration on Saturday.

The 21-year-old dashed into the Atyeo Stand after scoring the second goal in City's 4-1 win over Doncaster Rovers at Ashton Gate.

Maynard told the club's website: "The fans have been really supportive, that's the reason for my celebration.

"I want to score goals in every game that I play in but they haven't been coming as easily as I'd like."

Maynard added: "I've been getting letters and cards from fans saying 'keep your head up' and 'the goals will come', hopefully that will be the case.

If we can get the win against Wolves then it will close the gap up and push us further up the league

"I don't really feel the pressure from anybody, except myself. It's just nice to know the fans believe in me and I want to repay them."

After recording his second strike for City, Maynard said he is relishing the opportunity of tackling current Coca-Cola Championship leaders Wolves on Saturday.

"They're flying at the moment, I don't think they are miles ahead of us, even though the distance is seven points in the league.

"If we can get the win against Wolves then it will close the gap up and push us further up the league."
