Adriano Basso has become the first goalkeeper to pick up the Bristol City player of the year award.

"We don't achieve anything alone so I thank everybody who has the same mentality as me," said the 33-year-old.

The Brazilian shot-stopper has become a cult hero at Ashton Gate, keeping 15 clean sheets so far this season.

"I say thank you to God for giving me this opportunity, but I still had to make things happen - I'm delighted," added Basso, who is a devout Christian.

Earlier in the season, he attributed his penalty save against Watford's Darius Henderson to divine inspiration.

Midfielder Marvin Elliott picked up the young player of the year award, after scoring six goals in 48 appearances since joining City on a free transfer from Millwall.

Elliott, who is also a devout Christian, told the club website: "I'm absolutely delighted, I just want to kick on from here.

"I'd like to thank God, the gaffer, the staff and every single player at this club. The fans as well. Everyone has made me feel at home."

Darren Byfield collected the top goalscorer award for his eight strikes during the season to date, while the champagne moment of the season prize went to Jamie McCombe for his overhead kick goal in the 2-1 win over Hull City on 1 March.
