The club say that the 32-year-old has agreed an 18-month contract.
Adebola told BBC Radio Bristol he was delighted with the move: "I'm glad it's all sorted out and I think I've made the right choice.
"I honestly think they've got a great chance of doing it (getting into the Premier League) and to still be amongst the top three is fantastic."
Adebola had been at Coventry since joining on a free transfer from Crystal Palace in 2003.
He began his career at Crewe Alexandra before moving to Birmingham City for £1m in 1998.
