Robins clinch Brooker deal
Bristol City's new signing Steve Brooker
Brooker has scored five goals for Port Vale this season
Bristol City have completed the signing of Port Vale striker Steve Brooker for a fee which could rise to 225,000.

The 23-year-old turned down Vale's offer of a new deal and has signed for City until June 2008.

"I know City wanted a target man and I'm just flattered that a club this size looked at me," Brooker said.

"A big thing was (former City striker) Lee Matthews at Vale who told me how good the club was - it was hard to resist," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

City boss Brian Tinnion, who will give him his debut against Chesterfield on Saturday, added: "He leads the line well, he's powerful and he can score goals.

"He's someone who can hold the ball up and bring other people into the game."
