Amankwaah crash shock
Bristol City defender Kevin Awankwaah has impressed this season
Amankwaah was involved in a car crash
Bristol City defender Kevin Amankwaah is out for the remainder of the season after injuring his neck in a car crash.

The 19-year-old was involved in the accident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was in a car along with team-mate Aaron Brown, who was released from Weston-super-Mare General Hospital after treatment for whiplash.

The car in which Amankwaah and Brown were travelling was driven by former Robins trainee Rohan King - and was involved in a collision with another vehicle.

King also needed hospital treatment before being allowed to go home.

Amankwaah is now awaiting an operation in Frenchay Hospital.

"While it's very bad news we are just relieved Kevin's injury is not life-threatening and that he should make a full recovery in time," said manager Danny Wilson.

"Our thoughts are with him and his family."

Chief executive Colin Sexstone added: "It's been a shock to everyone at the club and we are very concerned about Kevin.

"We wish him the speediest possible recovery."

Amankwaah, who has established himself in the first team this season, has emerged as one of the club's brightest young talents after a string of impressive performances.
