City complete Matthews deal
Lee Matthews
Matthews has failed to break into Leeds' first team
Bristol City have completed the signing of Leeds United striker Lee Matthews on transfer deadline day.

The 22-year-old has cost the club an initial fee of 70,000, with a further 35,000 payable on an agreed number of appearances.

Matthews had initially joined CIty on loan and scored on his debut in the win over Millwall on Friday night.

I really love the place

"Lee will gives us an extra option because he gets round the back of defenders, like Dani Rodrigues did, " said manager Danny Wilson.

Matthews had failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at Elland Road and a string of injuries further limited his appearances.

The striker had already had loan spells at Gillingham and Grimsby, but will hope to further his career with a permanent move to Ashton Gate.

He told the club's official website: "The supporters seem to have taken to me already and I really love the place.

"I never realised City were such a big club."

Wilson is also on the look out for a centre-back in light of current injuries to Keith Millen and Mark Lever.

"I want an experienced defender on a short-term contract but it's been proving very difficult," he said.

The transfer deadline is 17.00 GMT on 22 March.
