West Brom defender Gonzalo Jara joins Brighton on loan

West Brom defender Gonzalo Jara has joined Championship side Brighton on loan until 2 January.

The 26-year-old Chile international has made 60 appearances for the Baggies since joining from Colo Colo in 2009.

Jara, who can also play in midfield, has only made one appearances in the Premier League this season.

Seagulls boss Gus Poyet had been looking to add to his squad after long-term injuries to Adam El-Abd and Tommy Elphick left him short of cover.

El-Abd is still recovering from a broken foot while Elphick is likely to miss the rest of the season as he needs a second operation on his Achilles tendon.

Poyet told the club website: "Gonzalo has Premiership experience having been a first choice last season, and he will bring quality and add experience of this level and higher.

"He will help us recapture our early season form."

Meanwhile the Uruguayan has handed Hungarian defender Zoltan Liptak a trial.

Liptak, 26, has had spells with Southend and Southampton and has won 10 caps for his country.

Poyet told BBC Sussex: "I've had very good reports and we've watched him in the national team but to have him for a few days is better. He's started well."
