Knight backs new Albion directors

Brighton & Hove Albion president Dick Knight believes the move to add two new directors is understandable.

The appointment of businessmen Adam Franks and Marc Sugarman was confirmed by the League One club this weekend.

Knight told BBC Sussex: "They are specialist people in finance and [chairman] Tony Bloom has his reasons for bringing them in.

"They're learning about the Albion. I brought in Martin [Perry] for his special knowledge of stadium planning."

Franks is a qualified chartered accountant and has known the chairman since they attended Manchester University.

Sugarman is an equity analyst for Citigroup, with expertise in the media sector.

Knight stepped down as chairman in June after 12 years, handing the role to multi-millionaire Bloom, who is funding the majority of the cost of their new stadium at Falmer.

He added: "Unfortunately now at this ground, teams come here knowing they can get a result. Teams have got used to it here.

"We've been here about eight years longer than planned and there's not a huge atmosphere generated around the ground and teams think it's more of a level playing field."
