Brighton capture defender Wright

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton have completed the signing of Crawley defender Jake Wright, beating off the interest of an un-named Scottish Premier League side.

The 23-year-old, formerly of Bradford City and Halifax Town, arrives at Withdean for an undisclosed fee.

"He is a left-sided defender, who can play at full-back or centre-half," boss Russell Slade told the club website.

"He's an excellent athlete, a good talker and I am expecting that he will prove himself as a quality player."

Slade added: "After he impressed last Friday night against us in our friendly with Crawley, [Crawley manager] Steve Evans kindly allowed us to take him on trial.

"He has done very well, both in training and in the game at Torquay on Tuesday."

Wright is travelling north with his new team-mates ahead of tomorrow's friendly at Scunthorpe, which is Brighton's last of the pre-season campaign.
