Beasant fitness holds the key
Brighton are checking on the fitness of veteran goalkeeper Dave Beasant before deciding whether to extend Ben Roberts' loan.

Roberts' two-month loan from Charlton expired after Saturday's 1-0 win at Bradford but 43-year-old Beasant is recovering from gastric flu.

Roberts had to miss Brighton's game against Walsall and Wimbledon with a similar illness, but has impressed in three other matches with Dutchman Michel Kuipers sidelined with a thigh injury.

Seagulls' assistant manager Bob Booker said: "It's nice for us to have such quality keepers around the club."

Beasant, signed on loan until the end of the season from Wigan, was unable to take his place on the bench at Bradford due to his illness.

Seagulls' boss Steve Coppell is also hoping to sign a striker on loan this week with suspensions looming for Gary Hart and Bobby Zamora.
