Brentford make Nicky Forster manager until season's end

Brentford have appointed caretaker boss Nicky Forster as their permanent manager until the end of the season.

Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Notts County made it 14 points from six games since he was placed in temporary charge after Andy Scott's departure last month.

The 37-year-old striker played for the Bees, who are 14th in League One, for three years in the 1990s and rejoined them from Brighton in March 2010.

"I'm delighted to have been given the chance to manage Brentford," he said.

Forster, who began his League career at Gillingham before joining Brentford for the first time in 1994, has also played for Birmingham, Reading, Ipswich, Hull, Brighton and Charlton.

He will now lead his team out as manager for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final against Carlisle at Wembley on 3 April.

Forster, who has never played at the national stadium, has not named himself in a matchday squad in the six games since he took over from Scott.

Speaking of his player-manager role, he added: "I've always said that you can't do both jobs.

"But if you're asking 'would I be tempted to come on at Wembley', all I'll say is 'let's see'."
