David Hopkin: Expected to complete four-year deal
Bradford City have agreed a club record 2.5 million fee for Scottish international midfielder David Hopkin.

City chairman Geoffrey Richmond is planning to tie up the deal for the Leeds United player by the weekend.

If Hopkin puts pen to paper on an expected four-year contract, the move will smash Bradford's previous record deal of 1.4million for Leeds' David Wetherall last summer.

Hopkin is poised to become the third signing in under a week for new Bantams' boss Chris Hutchings, following the free captures of Ian Nolan and Peter Atherton from Sheffield Wednesday.

"We've agreed a fee with Leeds and the target now is to have the deal done by the weekend," said Richmond.

"Having paid 1.4million for David Wetherall, this comfortably exceeds that, but paying this kind of money is something we have got to do if we are going to compete in the Premiership.

"And this won't be the last signing of the summer. By the time the Premier League season starts we will have signed another one or two players."

Meanwhile, City striker Robbie Blake has signed an extended three-year contract, a deal that had already been agreed prior to the end of last season.

The move comes a year after it looked as if Blake would leave Valley Parade having failed to resolve his contractual differences with the club, and he was placed on the transfer list.

Richmond said: "Robbie's future is now settled."
