Bradford City midfielder Chris Brandon has undergone an ankle operation and will be out until January.

It is another blow for the 32-year-old who has yet to make his Bradford debut since joining the club in the summer.

Brandon told local newspaper the Telegraph and Argus: "I didn't want to have the op but it's for the best.

"Of course it's a massive frustration but it's one of those things and I hope to be back in time to still have a real part to play."

Brandon joined Bradford in the summer after being released from Huddersfield Town, but picked up an ankle injury in a pre-season friendly at Motherwell.

The current problem occurred in September when he caught his studs in the ground while playing against Scunthorpe United reserves.

"I've been pretty lucky through my career because I've never had to have an operation before," said Brandon.

"I've had a few minor niggles but nothing serious so this is all a bit of a shock.

He'll get fit and ready for January and it will be like signing a new player for the big part of the season

Bradford manager Stuart McCall

"What caused is was something of nothing but the ankle may have been like that for a while.

"The problem might have been building up so maybe it was going to happen at some point.

"I'm in plaster for a month but after that I can look forward to kicking on with my rehab."

Bradford manager Stuart McCall said: "Chris has been really unlucky but he has to look forward to his long-term goal.

"He'll get fit and ready for January and it will be like signing a new player for the big part of the season."
