Angola striker Freddy Santos will not be signing for Bradford City despite agreeing personal terms with the club.
Santos has not signed a contract drawn up this weekend and has returned to Portugal for family reasons.
The 25-year-old former Uniao Leira player, explained his decision exclusively to BBC Radio Leeds.
He said: "It is a good level to play in League One but with the terms they tried to agree with me, it is better for me to stay in Portugal."
Santos added: "I enjoyed playing with Bradford and I was very pleased with everything they did there.
"But at the last minute I decided I had to return to Portugal because my wife is pregnant. It is also expensive to be in England where I do not have a house.
"Next year maybe I will come to England and maybe Bradford will call me but at the moment I don't know who I will play for next season.
"I hope that someone will have a look at me when I play for Angola in the African nations Cup."
Santos had previously been on trial with Leeds United on their pre-season tour of Norway but the Elland Road club did not pursue their interest.
