Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell says he will meet with manager Eddie Howe to attempt to convince him to stay at Dean Court.

Howe, who has been offered the job as boss of Crystal Palace, also reportedly held talks with Charlton Athletic.

Mitchell told BBC Radio Solent: "I spent time trying to give Eddie my point of view.

"He loves the club and if he decides to move on it will be heart wrenching, but I'll give him a glowing reference."

Howe has also been linked with the managerial position at Burnley and said after his side's 3-0 victory over Plymouth on Saturday, that his decision to leave the club would not be a 'snap judgement'.

Howe, replaced Jimmy Quinn as Bournemouth manager on New Year's Day in 2008, and led the Cherries to promotion from League Two last season.

"Eddie's always up for the challenge and believes in himself and that's what's propelled him to where he is now," Mitchell added.

"Money has to be a consideration as money gives you security, he's got to digest everybody's opinions and his own thoughts and make a difficult decision."

Bournemouth are currently second in League One, just four points behind leaders Brighton.
