Evans quits Boston
Steve Evans has resigned as manager of Third Division Boston United.

Evans had been suspended by the York Street club pending a Football Association hearing into contract irregularities.

He admitted four breaches of FA rules at a three-man disciplinary hearing in Birmingham in July but denied four other charges.

The club were deducted four points from the start of this season and fined 100,000.

Evans led the Pilgrims into the Football League for the first time in their history when they won the Conference title last season.

He will be replaced by Neil Thompson, who has been acting manager at York Street since Evans was suspended in July.

Thompson quit Boston on Wednesday following the 1-0 win over Swansea, claiming that his position had become untenable.

But after extensive talks with chairman Des Wood, he decided to stay on.

Some Boston supporters had called for the reinstatement of Evans before the season started.
