Bolton's Chung-Yong Lee has been named Premier League player of the year at the 2010 Northwest Football Awards.

The 22-year-old joined the club in July 2009 and impressed in his first season at the Reebok Stadium where he made 40 appearances and scored five goals.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle collected the award on Lee's behalf as the winger is on international duty with South Korea.

He said: "The award is well deserved. Chung-Yong had a great season and he continued that form at the World Cup."

Lee joined Bolton from FC Seoul for an undisclosed fee after impressing during a short spell on trial and the award caps a magnificent first season, when he also won the club's player of the year, players' player of the year, and best newcomer awards.

Launched in 2007 the Northwest Awards recognise the region's football accomplishments, both on and off the pitch, with votes for the best players chosen by the general public.

Lee beat off strong competition from Wayne Rooney, Leighton Baines and Graham Alexander in the Premier League vote.

Meanwhile Charlie Adam capped a fantastic season for Blackpool collecting the Championship award and Tranmere's Ian Goodison and Rochdale's Craig Dawson picked up the League One and League Two titles respectively.
