Bolton's Stuart Holden signs contract extension

Holden only made three appearances for Bolton last season

Bolton midfielder Stuart Holden has signed a contract extension that is due to run until 2013.

A January signing from Houston Dynamo, Holden suffered a broken leg in March and only started one Premier League match during the last campaign.

However, the 25-year-old United States international has started the Trotters' six league matches to date this season.

"I love being here," he told Bolton's website. "I couldn't be around better fans, management staff and players.

Scotland-born Holden arrived at the Reebok Stadium on a short-term deal before agreeing an extension until the end of the current campaign.

He has now been rewarded for winning a regular first-team place having recovered from a broken leg suffered while playing for his country against the Netherlands in March.

And Holden - who has scored twice in 15 internationals - revealed that Coyle's faith in him, coupled with a belief that the club can improve over coming seasons were behind his decision.

"I was given a chance by manager Owen Coyle to show I can play at this level, and I'm extremely grateful," stated Holden.

"I had a bit of a setback with the injury last season but that made me more determined to make an impact when I came back for pre-season.

"I've had a good start to this campaign and I'm looking forward to continuing playing and helping Bolton as much as I possibly can.

"I think the gaffer has brought a confidence to the club and a belief that we can play against the top teams in the Premier League.

"With the players that he has brought in and the players that were here already then I believe that we can do special things in the coming seasons."
