Bolton have denied media reports that Newcastle winger Laurent Robert has already signed for the club.
His agent Willie McKay told BBC Sport at the weekend that the 30-year-old had agreed terms for a three year contract.
"Laurent is considering our offer but there is a long way to go before anything can be agreed," manager Sam Allardyce told the club website.
Robert joined Newcastle in 2001 but fell out with manager Graeme Souness last season.
And after Newcastle's last game of the season he declared that it would be his last match for the club.
A move to Bolton will fulfil Robert's desire for European football next season.
Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is keen to boost his squad ahead of the club's first foray into Europe.
