Blackpool await David Vaughan injury assessment

Blackpool are awaiting news from a specialist on the extent of midfielder David Vaughan's hip injury.

The Wales international, 28, picked up the injury in training prior to last Sunday's defeat by Arsenal and will miss this weekend's game with Wigan.

"We're waiting with bated breath to see what the specialist says," Holloway told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We're waiting to see if we can keep him ticking through or is it more of a risk if we do play him."

Holloway added: "There's a slight muscle tear and we're getting it checked whether he's pulled any of the tendons off the hip or any bone with it."

Vaughan has been praised for consistently outstanding performances in Blackpool's debut season in the Premier League.

He's hardly ever noticed, hardly ever seen but he makes everything around him much more efficient

"He's been arguably our best player this season," said Holloway.

"Some people won't notice what he does in a game, but we do. And we appreciate what he does because he does it so brilliantly.

"He's hardly ever noticed, hardly ever seen but he makes everything around him much more efficient. Any team would miss what he gives them.

"But it now gives someone else a chance to play. Keith [Southern] came back in at the weekend and he was terrific.

"He's been really unlucky this season because I've overlooked him a few times after being injured. But he was an integral part of our team last season so now it gives him a great opportunity to have a go on Saturday."

There will be full commentary on Blackpool's game with Wigan from 1500 BST on Saturday on BBC Radio Lancashire.
