Blackpool complete Euell transfer

Blackpool have signed former Southampton midfielder Jason Euell on a 12-month contract, with the option of a second year.

The 32-year-old, who was released by the Saints after their relegation to League One, becomes Ian Holloway's second signing of the summer.

"Ian didn't have to sell the club too much to get me here," the ex-Wimbledon man told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"This club is growing and moving forward and I want to be a part of it."

Holloway feels his newest recruit will prove to be influential, on as well as off the pitch.

As much as you try to get on and play the game it's difficult when you hear mention of administration

"It's always a challenge to bring any new player to your football club, but Jason is someone I've admired for a long time," he said.

"He's a fantastic character and is one of the fittest 32-year-olds you'll find.

"He can play in a variety of roles and although the lads might not know it yet we've got a good player on our hands."

The former Jamaica international began his career as a trainee with Wimbledon in 1995, spending six years with the Crazy Gang.

Following his £4.75m move to Charlton in 2001, he later went on to make his international debut as a second-half substitute against the United States in the build-up to the 2006 World Cup.

The Lambeth-born player moved to Middlesbrough in August 2006, before joining Southampton a year later.

And after seeing the Saints become embroiled in off-the-field problems, including being placed in administration, Euell said it became difficult to focus on playing football.

"There was a lot of politics involved for all the players," he stated.

"At the end of the day you just want to play football and when you're not being selected for non-footballing reasons it's harder to deal with.

"There were a number of boardroom reshuffles as well as fans unrest, and as much as you try to get on and play the game it's difficult when you hear mention of administration."

Euell joins striker Billy Clarke in arriving at Blackpool this summer. The 21-year-old joined after being released by Ipswich Town.
