Blackpool secure Thornton deal
Blackpool have signed Sunderland midfielder Sean Thornton on a month's loan.

The 19-year-old's move to Bloomfield Road means a rapid return to Division Two after he left Tranmere Rovers in the summer to join Sunderland.

Thornton started just nine League games for Tranmere but did enough to catch Peter Reid's eye and cost the Wearsiders 250,000 at a tribunal.

However, he is yet to figure at senior level at the Stadium of Light and is likely to make his League return against high-flying Wigan on Saturday.

"Sean is a young up-and-coming star," Blackpool manager Steve McMahon told the club's website.

"I am delighted that he has joined us. He will benefit from playing first-team football and will be a good addition to our squad.

"He played at this level last season, including the 1-1 draw here at Bloomfield Road. He is an inventive, energetic midfielder who impressed me on a number of occasions last term."

The Seasiders have just lost the services of Everton loan pair of Peter Clarke and Keith Southern.

But McMahon still hopes to sign Southern on a permanent basis.
