Blackburn extend Andrews contract

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Keith Andrews
Andrews wants to build on his form in his debut season for Blackburn

Midfielder Keith Andrews has signed a new four-year deal with Blackburn.

The 28-year-old arrived at Ewood Park last summer when he was signed by former Rovers boss Paul Ince, who was also Andrews' manager at MK Dons.

He scored four goals in 35 games last season and helped Rovers avoid relegation from the Premier League after Sam Allardyce succeeded Ince.

"I'm delighted to be here and to commit myself for another four years," Andrews told the club's website.

"The chairman (John Williams) was very fair with me. When I signed here from MK Dons he said that if I performed and got in the team and stayed in the team I would be rewarded and he has been true to his word."

Andrews showed his versatility by playing at right-back when needed, and his form also led to him making his Republic of Ireland debut.

"Last season went reasonably well from a personal point of view," he added.

"I was delighted to make so many appearances, first and foremost. To have played so many games last year was probably more than I expected.

"I had things to prove to myself and I think I did that last year. At the highest level of football and on the international stage as well.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far, I've got a manager here now that has been thoroughly fair with me and I really want to stay here and crack on."
