Warnock targeting European spot

Blackburn defender Stephen Warnock has targeted a place in Europe as the club's main aim for this season.

Rovers' last participation in the Uefa Cup was in the 2007-08 campaign when they were knocked out in the first round by Greek side Larissa.

"We want to be ambitious," Warnock told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We don't want to be in the same situation as last year and scrapping for our lives and hopefully everybody sees it the same as I do."

Despite struggling to avoid relegation until the latter stages of last season, Warnock, 27, believes poor team spirit has never been an issue.

We know if we want to push for Europe we need to win as many games as possible

"There's never been a problem with the camaraderie in the camp," said the Ormskirk-born player.

"It's always been positive and there's always been a trust in each other that we're good enough to get out of the trouble we were in last year.

"It's always important to get points on the board as early as possible because we've got a period in October when we play three of the big four.

"But we know if we want to push for Europe we need to win as many games as possible and be up there as early as we can."

Warnock had been linked with a move away from Ewood Park, with Tottenham heading the list of interested parties.

But he believes his future lies with the Lancashire club.

"I'm oblivious to any interest to be honest. So unless someone tells me otherwise then nothing's happened."
