We must stay together - Emerton

Emerton is a doubt for Blackburn's opening game of the season at Everton

Brett Emerton has urged his Blackburn team-mates to remain at Ewood Park ahead of the new Premier League season.

Following the summer departure of previous manager Mark Hughes, Rovers have lost Brad Friedel and David Bentley since the end of last season.

But the Australian utility man told BBC Radio Lancashire that he wants everyone else to stay put.

"It's very important we keep everyone," said Emerton. "We've built up a good squad over the last few seasons."

Roque Santa Cruz and Stephen Warnock have both been linked with moves away from Ewood Park in recent weeks. But Emerton has insisted it is not causing much concern amongst the squad.

"We're all experienced enough not to let that sort of thing bother us," said Emerton.

"You hear it year in, year out, so I'm not sure it bothers too many people in the squad."

Emerton has missed several weeks of Rovers' pre-season preparations due to a toe injury and is likely to miss his side's opening game of the new season at Everton.

"I haven't trained in almost three weeks now so it's a little bit disappointing going in to the new season," he added.

"It's important that I be part of that first XI on Saturday, but, if not I'll have to give it another week and look forward to the following weekend."
