Friedel has turned into a key figure at Blackburn since joining in 2000

Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel has signed a one-year contract extension, tying him to the club until 2009.
The 35-year-old American joined Rovers seven years ago and now looks likely to finish his career at Ewood Park.
"I am delighted and it was an easy situation," he said. "I love being here and the fact that the club want me to stay on a little longer is great.
"I feel in good shape and I hope that in the future I will be sitting down to agree another contract - who knows?"

This has proved a tremendous move for me

And Friedel, who first came to England from Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew, says Rovers' faith in him after his £1m move to Liverpool turned sour will always live with him.
"Rovers showed great faith in me when I wasn't playing first-team football at Liverpool and I remember things like that," he said.
"This has proved a tremendous move for me and I want to repay the club by giving them my services for as long as I can."
Friedel retired from international football in 2005 after winning 82 caps.
