Dynamo Kiev defender Andriy Nesmachniy is training with Blackburn, manager Mark Hughes has confirmed.
The 27-year-old Ukraine international will spend a couple of days with the club ahead of a possible move.
"I know of him as I have come up against him at international level and was impressed with him," said Hughes.
"He can play wing-back, knows the game and has good football intelligence. Not only that, he has great experience with 60-odd caps for the Ukraine."
But Hughes stressed a deal was not definitely going to happen.
"It was made known to us he may be available to come in and have a couple of days training with us," he said.
"We have taken up that option and will have a look at him. We may well do a medical anyway as it makes sense.
"It is always helpful if you can see someone at first hand rather than on videos. But it is no more than that at this stage."
His arrival could coincide with the departure of Lucas Neill who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the transfer window.
Nesmachniy was a member of the Ukraine team that reached the quarter-finals at the World Cup earlier this year.
